Parent information/reminders
Greetings Parents!
There appears to be some confusion about important information when it comes to cheer. Even though this information will be reviewed at the parent meeting, I just wanted to make you aware of a few things so that you can determine if your child will still be able to participate in the program.
1) CHEER FEES- There is a cost to participate in the program. It is $200 for new members and $90 for returning members. The first payment of $100 for new members will be due on September 7th and returning members will be $50). The remaining balance will be due the October 5th. There will be NO REFUNDS if your child quits, is removed from the team, or the family moves. No first payment = No cheer and your child's spot will be forfeited. (This was explained in the tryout packet. We can't order cheer items unless we receive payment and it takes anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks to receive items.) We try to keep costs low, but other expenses may arise throughout the year. We do fundraisers via concessions to cover the cost of new cheer equipment/uniforms, food for late night events, and cheer banquet (gifts, food, and trophies for the girls only).
2) PHYSICALS- In order to be a member of the cheerleading squad, a physical must be completed to ensure the child has no major health issues. You may take your child to your family doctor or attend a district sponsored event. The physical can be turned in prior to the end of the school year OR the FIRST DAY of summer practice. No physical = no cheer. Medical clearance is a MUST.
3) SHOES- Cheer shoes are not included in the fee schedule and need to be purchased from Academy for $20. It is the BCG Brand Cheer Shoe.
4) SATURDAY PRACTICE- Summer practice is typically the time where we learn core cheer skills and motions, practice stunting, tumbling, jumps, and so much more. However since tryouts were held after the summer, we may end up having Saturday practices. We will also utilize this time to learn our cheers, chants, and routines for the fall semester of the school year as practice time is extremely limited during the school year. Saturday dates are TBA. I am waiting to confirm these dates and times with our principal.
5) CHEERLEADER EXPECTATIONS- Your child is a STUDENT before they are ATHLETES. Maintaining passing grades are mandatory to participate in cheer. Furthermore, having a positive attitude and good sportsmanship is mandatory to participate in cheer as well. Cheerleaders who can not follow school and district rules/policies will face consequences and ultimately be removed from the squad without refund. Every cheerleader is EXPECTED to be role models for their peers and a positive face of the district.
6) FALL SEASON (August to December)- Activities/Performances: Football Games (1 per week), Homecoming Pep Rally (if scheduled), Alief Proud (if scheduled), Alief Parade (if scheduled), Wreaths Across America, Varsity Football Game, and other performances as requested throughout the fall semester. Practices will be 2-3 times a week for 2 hours. Concessions (for assigned girls will always be Thursdays until 7:00 PM).
**During camp is when we also stock up on snacks and drinks for games/events. We ask that each girl bring ALL the following:
Chips (snack bags): Enough to feed 18 people.
Bottled Water: Small bottles or 16 oz. bottles for 18 people.
Gatorade/Powerade: 20 oz. bottles for 18 people.
8) COMMUNICATION- I will be using the Band App to send out information about performances, practices, etc. Cheerleaders will be in one group and parents will be in another. Messages will be sent out weekly (Sundays) and in the event practice is cancelled. Please me sure you and/or your child receive any and all messages. Please call/ message me directly if you have and concerns or need to inform me of a child missing practice. Thank you.
9) Study Hall - Cheerleaders will attend study hall on Wednesdays.
10) Practices and Performance- Missing practice is one of the major downfalls of a great team. We do understand that things happen, and in the event a cheerleader misses practice, they are responsible for learning the material on their own at the rate or better of those who attended better. Otherwise, your child runs the risk of being sat out for the performance. All performances are not guaranteed. If your child is not performing to the standard, they run the risk of being sat out from the performance. Excessive absences will result in removal from the squad. The can and will grow in terms of dancibility, flexibility, and skill. This is why we are one of the best middle school teams in the district. (It's easy to get to the top, but it's harder to stay there.... and we INTEND to stay AT THE TOP!)
